CLIENT: Mid-Penninsula Housing Coalition, Non-Profit

Named after former Stanford University Professor, the late Boyd Paulson, Paulson Park was a unique project since it combined the retrofitting of a complete fire sprinkler system in older existing apartments with new construction built simultaneously on the same property. In addition, the entire project was re-landscaped. The 149 rehabilitated units are spread amongst thirteen one and two story wood frame buildings located on grade. Residents were briefly relocated to allow for the sprinkler retrofit and the removal of asbestos embedded in the ceiling texture. The new construction portion of the project includes 104 wood frame apartments constructed over a subterranean concrete podium. Located on what was once a surface parking lot for the existing units, the addition of the new apartments nearly doubled the useful density of the project. Also included in the new construction portion of the project are a new leasing office, community gathering rooms and a recreation building. (Mid-Peninsula Housing is a non-profit affordable housing developer which Mr. Paulson spent many years volunteering his time for).
